THE OUTLAW ROBIN HOOD
The heroic story of The Outlaw Robin Hood by Moses Goldberg is presented in a gritty and authentically medieval atmosphere on October 2 - 11 at the Howard Brubeck Theatre. This telling of the familiar story focuses on the struggle of the peace-loving and good-hearted villagers of Nottingham to fight for justice and morality.
This theatrical performance is appropriate for fourth grade through adult and will be presented at The Howard Brubeck Theatre at the Palomar College Campus. Show times are from October 2 - 10 at 8:00 p.m. and October 11 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 general audience; $8 seniors/military and $5 for students with ID. SEASON OPENING PRODUCTION OF ARISTOPHANE'S
LYSISTRATA
San Diego Asian American Repertory Theatre is proud and excited to announce the opening play of its third full season , the ancient Greek classic Lysistrata by Aristo-phanes. It opens October 2 - 18 at the Sweetooth Theatre in downtown San Diego located in the basement of the Maryland Hotel.
In a modern translation by Alan H. Sommerstein, the play tells the story of the women of Greece whom led by Lysistrata, seek to stop their men's incessant warring, waging a battle-between-the-sexes by employing the ultimate weapon at their disposal. The theatre is located at 630 F Street. Show times are 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sundays. Ticket prices range from $8 - $14. POW WOW AT CSUSM
CSUSM will hold its 6th Annual Indian Pow Wow Saturday and Sunday, October 3-4 on the grass area at the corner of Twin Oaks Valley Road and Craven Drive. Admission is free and the public is invited. Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Drumming competition begins Saturday and will continue throughout the day with cash prizes awarded Sunday afternoon. Other features include intertribal dancers, and bird singers and native foods. JAZZTRAIN PERFORMANCE AT UCSD
Donald Byrd/The Group will bring what the Durham (N.C.) News and Observer calls "fleet-of-foot, hip-swiveling, never-stop-to-take-a-breath choreography" of San Diego when it performs Jazz-Train at 8 p.m. October 4, in Mandeville Auditorium at UCSD.
Byrd reflects such diversity in his JazzTrain presentation with three 20-minute sections, each one highlighting an individual composer's artistic personality and contributions to jazz techniques. Each section illustrates the use of a particular instrument: drum, guitar and piano. Tickers for JazzTrain are $20 general admission, $17 for faculty, staff and senior citizens, and $15 for students. AIDS MURAL NATIONAL TOUR KICKS OFF IN SAN DIEGO
The Center for Folk and Community Art (CFCA), a national arts organization, announced today that it has kicked off the national tour of its movable mural project, "WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO LIVE WITH HIV/AIDS," in San Diego.
The CFCA held a special "Telling Stories Through Visuals" workshop on September 19 for members of the San Diego HIV/AIDS community, helping them to write stories and create artwork describing their feelings and experiences living with HIV/AIDS. Their artwork was then added to the mural.
The mural will be at the San Diego Main Library, located at 820 E Street. The display is free to the public and will be on the second floor, Concourse Gallery from September 25 until October 13.

CENTENNIAL TRIBUTE AT SAN DIEGO MUSEUM OF ART
Compelling and paradoxical works of art produced by renown Dutch draftsman M.C. Escher will be shown in M.C. Escher: A Centennial Tribute, October 3, 1998 through January 3, 1999 at the San Diego Museum of Art.
The exhibition celebrates the centennial of M.C. Escher's (1898-1972) birth with a survey of extraordinary work drawn entirely from the National Gallery of Art's collection. The 84 works in this exhibition span Escher's career and consist of drawings, woodcuts, lithographs and mezzotints, as well as illustrated books and related technical materials.
