El Héroe
De La IndependenciaDon Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla al grito de ¡Viva La Libertad -Viva la Virgen de Guadalupe! Se lanzó al asalto de la "Alhóndiga de Granditas", en la ciudad Guanajuato. El 28 de Septiembre, después de sangrienta lucha en la que la multitud enfurecida aniquiló a sus defensores fué tomada al fin la forteleza. No tardaron las fuerzas de Hidalgo en apoderase de Celaya, Guanajuato y Valladolid (hoy Morelia), marchando a continuación sobre la Ciudad de México.
Quien era esté gran Héroe de México? Pues nació en la Hacienda de Corralejo, en Pénjamo, Gto., el 8 de Mayo de 1753. Fué enviado a Valladolid (hoy Morelia) a estudiar al Colegio de San Nicolás Obispo, del cual llegó a ser catedrático de Teología, filosofía, y finalmente, Rector. En 1792 se ordenó sacerdote, ejerciendo su Ministerio en el Curato de Dolores, después de haberlo hecho en varios otros curatos.De ideas liberales, se unió al grupo de patriotas que en el año de 1810 conspiraban en Querétaro a favor de la Independencia de México.
El movimiento armado debería iniciarse el día 2 de Octubre de ese mismo año, pero descubierta la conspiración y detenidos varios de los complicados, Hidalgo, en unión de Aldama, Allende Abasolo y otros, en atención a un aviso que, con riesgo de su vida les fué enviado por la Corregidora Doña Josefa Ortíz de Domínguez, decidío efectuar el levantamiento en el acto, y aquella memorable noche del 15 de Septiembre de 1810 mandó echar a vuelo las campanas de la Parroquia de Dolores para reunir a sus peligreses, e izando el Estandarte de la Virgen de Gualalupe, (Estandarte que le sirvió de Bandera durante toda su campaña), los exhortó, con frases ardientes, a participar en el movimiento liberador. La exaltada arenga que pronuncióen aquella ocación ha pasado a la historia con el nombre de "EL GRITO DE DOLORES". .

A la muerte de Carlos II :el hechizado" termina la dinastía
de los Habsburgo en España. Como resultado de la prolongada
"Guerra de Sucesión Española" el rey Luis
XIV de Francia logra imponer en el trono español a su nieto,
quien reinará con el nombre de Felipe V y es el iniciador
de la dinastía de los Borgones que es la que aún
hoy en día continúa. El período borbónico
significará para las colonias hispanas una serie de cambios
significativos:

The Old Town San Diego State Historic Park and Boosters of
Old Town will host their second annual celebration of Mexican
Independence Day, Saturday, September 16, 2000 from 12 pm-4 pm.
In the evening the Boosters of Old Town will be hosting a Fandango
(traditional Mexican Dance) following the daytime activities,

Austin, TX — In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, NPR's
Latino USA is pleased to present special reports commemorating

on September 15th, which marks the start of a month-long recognition
of Pan-American culture as communities from Honolulu to Denver
