$25,000 Leadership Gift Launches Youth Summit

A $25,000 leadership gift from San Diego Gas & Electric Co., has launched the San Diego County Youth Summit, a full-day conference organized by and for young people. The Youth Summit, scheduled for October 10, 1998 at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station, is expected to attract nearly 1,000 young people who will work to harness the power of youth to have a positive impact on their communities.

Under the theme of "Our Youth, Our Summit, Our Promise," the youth will address the challenges posed by the 1997 Presidents' Summit for America's Future, including creating positive social change and contributing to communities through volunteerism. The summit will feature motivational speakers, interactive workshops, information on volunteer opportunities in San Diego County and networking among the geographically diverse participants.

"San Diego Gas & Electric is proud to support the efforts of these young people who are working so hard to organize the San Diego County Youth Summit," said Ed Guiles, President of SDG&E. "We applaud their desire to have an impact on their own future - to reach out to other youth and to become part of the solution to build safe communities."

"We are grateful to SDG&E for partnering with us to sponsor this event," said Coleen Sabatini, San Diego County Youth Summit Planning Committee Co-Chair. "We will celebrate the work that young people are doing to improve our communities and create positive social change. This summit will bring youth together from throughout the county to exchange ideas and build upon our skills to make a greater impact on our communities. It means so much for us to have this support from SDG&E - it really validates our efforts."

The Youth Summit is free and open to all young people ages 12 to 24. Transportation to the event, snack and lunch will be provided. For more information on the summit or to participate, call 619-490-1670 or toll free at 1-888-56-YOUTH.
