Two Southbay youngsters, Veronica
Garza and Alessandro Canto, went into the United States Junior
National Taekwando Championships in Las Vegas in July, and came
home with a Silver and Bronze Medals.
Nine-year-old Veronica Garza, a fourth grade student at Feaster-Edison
Charter School in Chula Vista, and Alessandro Canto, also nine
and a fourth grader at La Mirada Elementary School in San Ysidro,
represented the State of California, in their age group, at the
national championship tournament which attracted over 5,000 competitors
from all fifty states and the District of Columbia.
Veronica brought home the Silver Medal in the girls 8-9 year-old, 89-92 pound, Blue Belt Division, while Alessandro caputred the Bronze Medal in the boys 8-9 year-old, Heavyweight, Black Belt Division.
Both of these budding martial artists worked very hard to achieve their success. Young Miss Garza started training in Taekwando at he age of four and young Mr Canto began training at he age of three. Both are students of Master Victor Bel-tran, Jr., at Beltran's College of Taekwando, a branch of Healthykicks in South San Diego.
Prior to the Nationals both won Gold Medals at the California State Championships in Anaheim, last April, to qualify for the Junior Nationals.
Their families and friends are very proud of them and all agree that their achievements should be commended.
