Imperial Beach City Council's Actions Questionable
I attended my first Imperial Beach City Council meeting Sept. 1st. I must say it was enlightening. The meeting lasted over 5 hours with two agenda items taking up most of the time. Item #17 involved a decision whether to grant a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for a tattoo and body piercing shop that a Latina wished to establish in a commercial space on Palm Avenue.
The City Council debated old signage codes, visual blight but the bottom line was stated by a naive city councilwoman, Patricia McCoy who stated "We don't want a proliferation of this type of business. This dated incorrect and bigoted opinion of tattoo and body piercing shops is simply ridiculous"...
I am not sure what the entire prejudiced IB city council have against this honorable attempt by a Latina woman to operate a legitimate business is...
The meeting started with the Pledge of Allegiance that ends with the words: with liberty and justice for all. I ask for all but whom?... I am truly appalled.

Your Opinions not Heard or Read in other Media
Your paper continues to give an opinion that many times goes unheard. So many people know the truth but will not listen, and there are those who do not understand. And then, there are those who are part of the operation and cannot change. They all make life interesting.
Continue, some people hear you and appreciate your effort.
