La Prensa recommends that the following selections be made for Districts A, C, & E:
District A; MARIA NIETO SENOUR
District C: KARA KOBEY
District E: JIM MACK
La Prensa San Diego is of the opinion that Rick Alexander & Rebecca Clark should be voted out of office. Perhaps Rebecca's mother can find something else to do other then running the college through her daughter. Rick has disrupted the operations of the colleges long enough. He should go to Alpine and join Mrs. Clark in doing whatever she does out there. We support the following candidates:
Seat 1: C. SCOTT CIOFFI
Seat 2: STEVE JONES
Seat 5: LISA DE JESUS
Grossmont Union High School District
After a number of years of turmoil, the time is here now to vote in members of the Board who do not have particular Ax to grind. The opportunity is here to vote three new members and get back to the business of education. La Prensa recommends the follow candidates:
Kenneth L. Blalack
James P. Miller
Linda A. Potter
San Diego Unified School District
District B: Sue Braun unfortunately sold out to the Chamber of Commerce and took money from them for this election. That poisons the well and La Prensa cannot support her reelection. We need free and independent Board members that do not have to ask the Chamber how to vote. La Prensa recommends:
District B- MICHAEL MIKE McSWEENY
District C- JOHN DE BECK
Does San Ysidro need inexperienced persons administering and overseeing a $220 MILLION BUDGET? We think not. Over 4000 students depend on their School Board to assure that the receive a good education. La Prensa San Diego recommends the REELECTION OF:
Jean Romero, Yolanda Hernandez
Three seats are open. In seat 2, Terri Valladolid chose not to run for office. Seat 4 and 5, two experience office holders are running for reelection. La Prensa San Diego recommends the reelection of G. Gorden Browning, Robert Bareno, and Maria Perman for seats 2, 4, and 5.
REELECT: Rosalie Alvarado, Anne Campball, and Frank Perez. There was no opposition to them on the ballot.
La Prensa San Diego cannot in all good sense recommend candidate Bertha Lopez
A candidate for an Elementary School District post must be above reproach in conduct, morals, and ethical conduct. With a police record on file for "Domestic Violence" and a Restraining order against her on July 1993. We cannot in good sense consider her a fit candidate to guide the future of our children.
Seat 1 - La Prensa San Diego recommends REY MONZON as far away the most qualified candidate with an impeccable character, morals, and values.
Seat 3 - We endorse the reelection of Pamela B. Smith. She has done a good job in her past term and deserves a chance to another term.
Seat 5 - Larry Cunningham deserves our support even though at first he wasn't sure he would run for reelection. The District needs you Larry and with Monzon on board. Budget meetings should be a piece of cake.
Seat 1 - Jim Cartmill is our man. For his support in helping hold the Board together with the trials and tribulations that followed the Supt, Trujillo firing, the trauma of the Supt, Rindon illness, and providing the support for Supt. Brand, we think Cartmill earn the right for one more term.
VOTE FOR JIM CARTMILL
Seat 3 - Encumbent Greg Sandoval lost our support with his appearance on a Right Wing voter guide supporting the entire Radical Right Wing agenda. The guide indicates that he supports the leader of the anti-bilingual programs in our schools.
Our vote goes to candidate Jose Lopez who led the expose of Supt. Trujillo and led to his firing from the district. He had the courage to speak out while the rest of the insiders kept quiet. He earns our vote. He has already shown he cares about our kids.
VOTE FOR JOSE LOPEZ
Seat 5 - Are you willing to let Arlie Ricasa BUY a seat on the school board? It is obscene for her to spend $49,000 dollars to get a seat on a school board. That is almost enough to win an Assembly seat. Inexperience, young and evidently owned by some heavy hitters from Los Angeles, we wonder what the price is to sell out our kids! Not only that, she joined Greg Sandoval in endorsing the entire Right Wing slate in California. I wonder how much Sandoval got... It's not on his campaign disclosure statements.
Have to go with the hard hitting Granny RUTH CHAPMAN, we know she is a straight shooter that has only one interest: Her Kids in the Sweetwater School District.
VOTE FOR RUTH CHAPMAN
