Mariachi Workshop Festival November 13 and 14 at Southwestern

Southwestern College presents "The Second Annual Mariachi in the Schools Conference" for students wanting to learn more about Mariachi music. The mariachi conference will be held November 13 and 14 at Mayan Hall, Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. respectively. Students who register for this event must currently have the skill to play their instrument.

The conference will introduce students to mariachi music and style. Workshops will be conducted by Mariachi Champana Nevin and will include a showcase concert featuring Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez. In addition, participating students will have the opportunity to attend a professional mariachi concert at the Copley Symphony Hall featuring Mariachi Sol de Mexico, Mariachi Champana Nevin, and the San Diego Symphony. Lunch and dinner will available both days of the event.

Conference registration is $25 per participant which includes tickets to all conference concerts at the Copley Symphony Hall and the Sweetwater Union High School District. The registration deadline is November 1. Transportation will be provided to students from their home schools to the conference and then return to their home schools.
