Julieta Venegas was the big winner at Thursday night’s MTV VMA Latin America Awards, winning in 3 categories, including Artist of the Year. Cafe Tacuba brought home 2 “tongue” awards, and the night’s other winners included La Oreja de Van Gogh, Alejandro Sanz, La Ley, Belinda, Diego Torres, Cementerio Club & Capri. The awards were broadcast live on MTV2 & MTV Espanol here in the US, and will be re-broadcast on MTV October 30th at 11:00 pm PT/ET.

Gloria Trevi made her post-prison live public debut at the El Premio De La Gente Awards, which took place October 21st at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. Trevi was honored with the ceremony’s Alma de la Gente Award. Go figure.

Congrats to Los Lobos, who along with other community leaders such as J. Gerardo Lopez (Editor of La Opinion), and Kaiser Permanante, were honored for their outstanding contributions in their respective industries by the Hispanic Public Relations Association (HPRA) at its 20th anniversary of the 2004 Premio Awards & Scholarship Dinner.

Si TV adds two new hosts to its music variety show “The Drop”. Jonisha Rios and Jose Antonio join returning hosts Jelynn Rodriguez, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Jr., and DJs Romeo and DeJai, aka “Tha Goodfellas” from LA’s Power 106. This season on The Drop, you can catch performances by Yerba Buena, Guerilla Black, Pitbull, Jae P and others.

Award-winning actor Hector Elizondo joins the Screen Actors Guild Foundation Board of Directors.

The idea for a Latin Hip Hop Awards show for cable and/or network television broadcast is being shopped. The awards would honor established acts as well as rising stars in recognition of their contributions and achievements in the Latin Hip Hop genre.

MTV is spotlighting “the Latina experience” in the US and the unique problems we face as a product of two cultures, for its document series “My Life Translated. Univision has appointed Noelia Rodriguez as Vice President of Corporate Communications, reporting to CEO A. Jerrold Perenchio. Rodriguez will be responsible for managing the company’s strategic communications needs and promoting Univision’s media services and operations.

mun2 tv’s talk/variety show “La Conexion”, was honored with the Shine Award in recognition for outstanding portrayal of sexual health issues at the 20th Annual media Project Shine Awards.

Latin GRAMMY winners, Bacilos, are hitting the road in support of their new album “SinVerguenza”, which was released last month.
