Excellent!!! So true and real. You have described assimilation with so precious words (La Prensa San Diego Sept. 25, 1998. "El Precio de Ser Un Gringo"). Very few Mexican-Americans understand this process and yet fewer can explain it. Job well done.

Great story on the Spanish American War
Thanks Great article on the Maine, the Spanish American War, and the Cuban Revolution of 1895-98 (the real revolution). You are really teaching history to our children. I hope that you continue to write about our Latin American countries.
Maybe you could teach some of the educators in California about our cultures I don't know if you are Cuban or not but you sure sound like one. Thanks. Give my regards to TEZZY... keep the smoke going. You're big fan from Florida.

(Comment: Gracias for your kind words. Pero no soy Cubano. I am a pure, home grown, Californian i.e. A CHICANO. History just is. It depends on who writes it, who reads it, and on your cultural background. Schools fail to teach our history (Chicano, MEXICAN, LATINO etc.)

John Moores Gives Money NOT for ULTRUISTIC REASONS
In the 1920's, gangster Al Capone kept himself popular in Chicago by giving highly visible contributions to charities. More recently swindler J. David Dominelli endeared himself to the local Establishment by lavishing stolen money on the arts and subsidizing George Mitrovich's City Club
Today each time Padres owner John Moores gives money to a local cause, we hear what a great asset he is to San Diego. While not in a class with Capone or Dominell, Moores' contributions are intended to get the community to back his $300 million plus taxpayer subsidy of the ballpark
Were these gifts altruistic? Of course not. These gifts were and are cynical "business expenses" intended to curry favor. Think not? Consider Moores $4 million (gift) to the San Diego State University athletic program. Shortly thereafter, the school athletic director announced that the Aztec football team could no longer play in Qualcomm in the fall with the Padres This, after 25 years of peaceful cohabitation. Shortly thereafter Moores gives SDSU ANOTHER SIX MILLION! If the gifts were ultraistic they would be anonymous... not accompanied by a media blitz.
If Moores REALLY wanted to aid San Diego, he would finance the park privately, or endeavor to make Qualcomm stadium work for his team... Don't hold your breath.
