Community Resource Holiday Basket Program

The community Resource Center's Holiday Basket Program is an annual event, which allows needy families an opportunity to have a more fulfilling holiday season, is now registering families for the holiday baskets.

Registration begins November 1st and will be held every Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 1-4:30 pm until December 10th at the Community Resource Center, 656 Second Street, Encinitas, CA 92024. Please bring proof of current address. For more information call Claudia Turk at (760) 901-5499.

Qualifying persons will receive a turkey, foodstuffs, clothing, and toys for each child in their household. The distribution will be held during a two-day celebration on Dec. 17 and 18.


SWC to hold Annual Holiday Craft Fair

Sponsored by the California Schools Employee Association at Southwestern College, local residents are invited to begin their holiday shopping early. The college will host the 13th Annual Holiday Craft Fair Friday, Nov. 5, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in parking lot #K located in the lower parking lot in front of the campus.


Military Remembrance

The Military Order of the World Wars, a Veterans Organization, will hold it's 45th annual "Massing of the Colors and Service of Remembrance" at 10:30 a.m. till noon on Nov. 7 at the Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park. This is a ceremony to honor the Flag and to honor those men and women who served their country and those who paid the supreme sacrifice.


County Wants Comments About Child Care in San Diego

What are your concerns and needs regarding child care for you and your family?

San Diego County wants to know. The County of San Diego Child Care Planning and Development Council is holding two hearings Nov. 3 to gather comments about how it should set priorities. The public hearings will be held from 9 to 11 am and 7 to 9 pm on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at Neighborhood House Association, 5660 Copley Drive, San Diego. For more info call (619) 685-2265.


Volunteers Needed to Deliver Thanksgiving Meals to Seniors

Volunteers are needed to deliver hot nutritious meals to shut-in seniors. Neighborhood House - Senior Services is looking for 30 volunteers to help deliver 100 Thanksgiving Dinners. Each volunteer will deliver meals between 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 25. Anyone interested in volunteering for this special program should contact Jeanette Van at (619) 263-2108 by Wednesday, November 17, 1999.


Park and Recreation Department's Vista Terrace Pool Now Registering For Lifeguard Training Course

The Vista Terrace Pool, located at 301 Athey Avenue in the San Ysidro area of San Diego, is now registering for a lifeguard training course beginning November 16 through December 11, 1999. Class participants will learn American Red Cross techniques in lifesaving, first aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The cost of the four week, 48-hour course is $103.50 plus American Red Cross support service fees, books, and other course materials.

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive the American Red Cross certification necessary to apply as an entry level lifeguard with the City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department. To register for the lifeguard training course, call the Vista Terrace Pool at (619) 424-0469
