John Rojas to be honored

John Rojas, known in the City of Chula Vista as "Mr Chula Visal Local Historian" will be honored by the City the Chula Vista Library, October 23rd, 10 a.m. when they officially name the local history room at Civic Center Library the "John Rojas Local History Room".

Mr Rojas has collected and documented much the local history for the past four decades preserving the history of Chula Vista for generations to come.

 

Toltekas En Aztlan Día de los Muertos

Since anciet times the Aztek Naua Ceremony of the Day of the Dead has been a very important expression of the life and times in the American continent's culture, especially so among the Indian people.

For 20 years ago Toltekas en Aztlan has presented to the community the beauty of the espiritual expression of the ancient traditional way to express the departure to the spiritual world of the souls that have left the physical life, in Aztek language called `Milhuikaiuitl.

To accomplish the ancient Aztec tradition, Toltekas en Aztlan perform the Milhuikaiuitl with poetry and traditional dances. The public is invited to participate in the ceremony Saturday, October 30 from 12 noon to 5 p.m. at Chicano Park, under the Coronado bridge.

This year Toltekas en Aztlan will perform the special Aztek Holistic Fire Ceremony an ancient traditional prayer, to pray for all people who passaway. There will also be workshops of Altars; performances by Aztec Dance Group, Education Fisica Federal de Tijuana, Deer Dance and Aztec dancers from Mexico and Los Angeles. An Aztek offering of flowers, food, candles, a procession and poetry reading

Bilingual Toastmasters Club

Bilingual Toastmasters Club — Bilingue de Chula Vista meets every 2nd and 4th (soon to be weekly) on Tuesdays from 6:30 until 8:00 at 84 `J' Street, Chula Vista, CA also, the newly chartered Toast of the Town Toastmasters meets every Thursday from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at 200 main Street, 5th floor, El Cajon, CA

Toastmasters, an international speaking organization dedicated to effective speaking and development of leadership skills is 75 years old with over 175,000 members worldwide.

 

UCSD Community Outreach Information Fair to be Held October 28

The University of California, San Diego will hold a Community Outreach Information Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. October 28 at Southwestern College, 900 Otay Lakes Road, Chula Vista. The fair is free and open to the public.

Representatives from UCSD will staff information booths, interactive displays and workshops focusing on student admissions, employment, educational opportunities, university events and resources available to students. There will be entertainment, refreshments and door prizes.

The event is wheelchair accessible. A sign interpreter will be provided for persons with hearing impairments.

San Diego Pharmacists Offer Health Clinics for "Statewide Screening/Immunization Day"

October 24-30 marks National Pharmacy Week and Friday, October 29 marks the first-ever pharmacist-sponsored "Statewide Screening/Immunization Day!" The Community Pharmacy of Escondido, University City Pharmacy and the VA Medical Center Pharmacy, in conjunction with the California Pharmacists Association (CPhA) and the VA Medical Center Pharmacy, in conjunction with the California Pharmacists Association (CPhA) and California pharmacy school students, are taking part in this nationwide celebration and statewide effort by offering flu shot clinics (FREE for most Medicare B patients) and FREE medication consultations through "brown bag" meetings. Pharmacists are providing these pharmaceutical care services to raise consumer awareness of safe and appropriate medication use, to educate people about the importance of communicating with their pharmacist and to illustrate the role of pharmacist as health care providers.
