The San Diego State Aztecs, 2-2 after last week's romp at Kansas, open their first season in the Mountain West Conference by hosting Air Force Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2. The Aztecs are returning to Qualcomm Stadium for the first time since the opener (Sept. 4th). SDSU is 2-2 for the first time since 1995.
The contest is an important early-season meeting in the Mountain West Conference. Preseason prognostications tabbed Air Force and San Diego State as two contenders for the first MWC crown. The game features America's third-best rushing team (Air Force at 307 yards per game) against the nation's No. 11 rushing defense (San Diego State at 68.8 yards allowed).
The Aztecs carry a five-game home winning streak into Saturday's game. San Diego State is 7-1 in its last eight league games in Mission Valley. SDSU is trying win six straight home games for the first time since '96. That streak reached seven with the '97 opener.
