Carlsbad NFL Hall-Of-Famer Deacon Jones revolutionized the defensive end position and now, with some help from his friends, is on his way to revolutionizing the financial position of young, talented students trapped in inner-cities. A consummate crusader for his cause, Deacon is continuing the fight to raise funds that support educational scholarships, by hosting the Third Annual Avid/Deacon Jones Hall of Fame Golf Classic benefiting the Deacon Jones Foundation, held November 7-8, 1999, at La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California.

Established in 1997, the prestigious Deacon Jones Foundation is a multi-cultural program developed to assist outstanding students of all nationalities at predominately inner-city schools who are positive role models, academic achievers and future business and community leaders. The Deacon Jones Foundation serves to empower these frequently disregarded young students with the tolls they need to succeed and ultimately to break the cycle of poverty.
With the help of corporate partners, the Deacon Jones Foundation is able to provide an all-encompassing scholarship program. Deacon's Foundation has been hailed as one of the most unique and well-thought out scholarship programs available. Students who receive scholarships receive more than just money, they receive 7 years of training, social poise, and more importantly, life lessons.
