Blockbuster, the leader in rentable home entertainment, has launched its third-annual fundraising efforts for the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation (MAOF), a Southern California-based family service and resource center.
Now through Oct. 31, Blockbuster members in the Bakersfield, Fresno, Los Angeles and San Diego, Calif. areas can donate to the MAOF by participating in the "Good Neighbor Card" program at Blockbuster.
When Blockbuster members purchase the $5 "Good Neighbor Cards" (on sale until Oct. 31) they receive a free movie rental (including new releases, five-evening movies and DVDs) of equal or lesser value with each one paid rental every Wednesday through Nov. 24. All proceeds from the card purchase go directly to the MAOF.
"MAOF is one of the nation's largest, most effective community-based human services organizations in existence," said Ned Dickey, vice president of domestic operations for Blockbuster and a member of the MAOF Board of Directors. "By teaming up with MAOF through the `Good Neighbor Card' program, Blockbuster is helping the MAOF help our communities. The good neighbor program provides consumers with a good value, while at the same time raising funds for our neighborhoods."
Over the last two years the Good Neighbor program has raised $100,000 for the MAOF, and the company is committed to raising at least an additional $50,000 this year.
"The MAOF is a partnership between community, government, labor and corporate organizations," said Dionicio Morales, founder and president of MAOF. "And no where is this partnership at work more evident than in efforts like the fundraising efforts by companies like Blockbuster."
In addition to the in-store fundraising efforts, Blockbuster has supported the MAOF through its participation in the organization's Annual Hispanic Women's Conference, Aztec Awards Banquet, Fiesta Ranchera and Senior Tardeada events.
Blockbuster will present the MAOF with proceeds raised through the "Good Neighbor Card" program at this year's (Oct. 8) Aztec Awards Banquet in Los Angeles, Calif. The banquet is designed to honor individuals and companies that have contributed to the progress of Mexican Americans in the 20th Century. For more information on the banquet please call the MAOF at (323) 890-9600.
