Latino Owned Accounting Firm Offers College Scholarship to Local Student

The California Society of Certified Public Accountants says enrollment in accounting programs is down in the state. Though expert opinion vary on the reason for this downward trend, they all agree on one thing —qualified students are needed to serve the accounting and consulting needs of tomorrow's business community.

Victor Calderon, founding partner of San Diego's 35-year-old Calderon, Jaham & Osborn Certified Public Accountants and Consultants, says his firm will do its part in proposing solutions to this industry problem. "Accounting is a challenging and fulfilling career where a bright young person can make a tremendous contribution to his or her clients, the business community and society at-large," Calderon says. "In our firm's many years in business, our accounting professionals have helped businesses and individuals maintain greater portion of their assets, increase their net worth and prevent common problems such as embezzlement, fraud and undervaluation of assets."

Calderon Jaham & Osborn recently announced that it will offer $10,000 over the next five years in scholarships to outstanding high school seniors who wish to pursue college studies in public accounting. To be eligible, students must attend high school in the San Diego Unified School District, have a minimum grade point average of 3.0, and express a sincere desire to pursue a career in accounting and financial services.

"Our firm has a long tradition of community service, and this scholarship is another opportunity for us to contribute to San Diego," says Calderon. "We are pleased to help a worthy student realize his or her dreams of attending college, while at the same time promoting our exciting profession."
