On November 5, 1998, President Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton honored the recipients of the 1998 National Medal of Arts and the 1998 National Humanities Medal Awards at the White House.
Ramón Eduardo Ruiz, an emeritus professor at the University of California, San Diego, and a distinguished historian of Hispanic America was among the recipients. He has had influential career as an educator, scholar and intellectual. Author of a dozen books and numerous articles, he has written on multiple aspects of Mexico’s history and the two most important upheavels in Hispanic America, the Cuban and Mexican revolutions.
