Alliance Healthcare Foundation Hires New Program Officer

Olga de la Cruz-Cañon, a resident of La Jolla, has joined Alliance Healthcare Foundation as a program officer responsible for identifying and developing new funding opportunities within the foundation's priority areas.

De la Cruz-Cañon moved to San Diego from Salt Lake City, Utah, where she developed an expertise in child adolescent health and minority health issues. For seven years she served as prevention programs director for the Centro de la Familia de Utah, and she also coordinated the Alcohol and Drug Education Center for the University of Utah. A graduate of the University of Utah, de la Cruz-Cañon earned a bachelor's of science degree in sociology and criminology and a master's in public administration.

A private non-profit foundation devoted to increasing access to healthcare for the under-served, Alliance grants $5 million annually, primarily in San Diego County. Alliance also uses advocacy, education and policy work to further its mission and educate the community about critical healthcare issues. Its funding priorities include access to health care, substance abuse, communicable diseases, violence prevention and mental health services, and environmental and community health problems.
