There is a Cure for the Summer Time Blues Park and Recreation Department's Summer Day Camps for Kids

In classrooms throughout the San Diego City School District, the countdown has begun to summer vacation. Students are counting the days, the hours and the minutes until the final bell rings, summer is officially here, and they no longer have to go to class.

Parents on the other hand, are scrambling to make sure their sons and daughters have constructive things to do from June until September. Summer months pose an especially real problem for working parents who need to make sure that their children have somewhere safe to go. During the school year, children have some built-in responsibilities including after-school activities such as sports and homework. When summer comes time can stretch and children can begin to feel invisible. And when they do, they can turn to inappropriate and destructive activities.

Structured activities such as recreation, cultural programs and fine arts are an important part of summer, and they are offered at low cost by the San Diego Park and Recreation Department's summer day camp program at 48 recreation centers throughout the city. The goal of the Park and Recreation Department is to do more than keep kids busy and entertained. Creative and caring staff will teach children water safety through Learn To Swim classes, how to make friendship bracelets through arts & crafts, how to identify wildlife on canyon, walks, and how to appreciate the history of San Diego during field trips to museums. Through these and other fun activities, children will play new games, make new friends, explore new places an much more.

Even the most independent children will grow tires of television, hanging out at the mall and playing video games after a while. The San Diego Park and Recreation Department summer camps offer something for everyone, providing the perfect blend of interactive learning with fun and excitement.

Check with the recreation center nearest you for more information on signing up for summer day camp activities or call (619) 525-8219.
