More than 200 scholarships totaling
over $100,000 were presented to students at the eighth annual
awards banquet sponsored by the San Diego City College Foundation
at the U.S. Grant Hotel.
Donors were recognized along with students recipients at the gala event which attracted some 300 people from the college and the community. Special honoree was James Sinegal, chief executive officer and president of Costco Companies, Inc., who receive the Outstanding Alumnus Award. He graduated from City College with an Associate in Arts degree in 1955.
Student speaker for the banquet was Richard Kimball, recipient of the Chancellor's Scholarship, who had a 4.0 or perfect grade point average.
Laurel Corona, English professor, received the Golden Apple trophy given to an outstanding faculty member by the student honor society, Alpha Gamma Sigma.
