The United States, the defencing Olympic champion, will host Mexico, a 1999 Women's World Cup finalist, as part of a doubleheader with the Los Angeles Galaxy on Sunday, March 28th, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. This will be the first in a series of matches the U.S. will play over the next few months as part of their "Road to Pasadena" tour. It will also be the last time the team will play in Souhtern California before the Women's World Cup begins on June 19. The 2 p.m. PT match will be televised by ESPN. The United States features international superstars Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy (Laguna Nigel), Joy Fawcett (Rancho Santa Margurita) and Kristine Lilly. Mexico, which was the last team to qualify or the Women's World Cup tournament, features several Mexican-American players, including Laurie Hill (former UC Santa Barbara All-America), Gina Oceguera (Cal Poly SLO) and defender Susie Mora (USC).
The Women's World Cup, the largest women's sporting event in history, will play two dates at the Rose Bowl, a First Round Doubleheader on June 20 (Germany vs. Italy; North Korea vs. Nigeria) and the Final and Third Place Match on July 10th.
