Over 10,000 Educators, Parents and Leaders Celebrate Bilingual Education

Over 10,000 participants attended the 24th annual California Association for Bilingual Education (CABE) national conference, recently held at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Civil rights leader Jesse Jackson and Congressman Xavier Becerra were among a select group of prominent leaders who spoke at this year's conference.

U.S. Congressman Xavier Becerra (c) is joined by Silvina Rubinstein (l), executive director of CABE and Anaida Colon-Muñiz, president-elect of CABE.

"Our theme this year, Bilingual Education: Creating Voices for the Future, highlighted our commitment to promoting biliteracy for all," said Maria Quezada, president of CABE. "We believe well implemented bilingual education programs truly prepare students for their future in a society that will encompass many perspectives, cultures and languages."

CABE `99 participants were able to choose from over 400 workshops throughout the three-day conference. A wide variety of seminars were offered to address the needs of teachers, administrators, scholars, parents, para-educators, community leaders, policymakers and students.
