Linda Vista Bayside Settlement House is making history. Bayside, a community center serving the Linda Vista community, is in its third year of a ground-breaking program. The Neighbor-to-Neighbor program, developed from the work of Northwestern University professors, focuses on Positive Community Assessment. The program focuses on the strengths and talents in a community, rather than the traditional focus on deficiencies and weaknesses.
AmeriCorps*National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) Corps Members are helping bayside collect information through Personal Interviews of Linda Vista residents. The information on strengths and talents will be used to set up an Exchange of Services between neighbors. This initiative came on the heels of the National Campaign to increase community Revitalization Efforts through AmeriCorps involvement. Interviews will be conducted from Monday, March 15th to Friday, March 26th.
Also, Corps Members will work on the Physical Improvement of seniors' homes throughout the month of March.
In honor of the completed project, a Recognition Ceremony will be held on Friday, March 26th at Bayside Settlement House in Linda Vista. The ceremony will be held from 1:30pm-2:15pm followed by all open forum with City Officials in attendance, Bayside Staff and Ameri-Corps*NCCC Corps Members.
AmeriCorps*NCCC is a National Service Organization that involves young adults ages 18-24 in a ten month residential program to improve our nation's communities. In exchange for their ten months of service members receive a $4725 award toward educational advancement.
Positive Promotion of these organizations is important to Empower People to look for ways they can be active in their own communities.
