Mexican Minimum Wage Increased

The Mexican government increased the minimum wage base by 10%. The increase will bring the 1999 minimum of 34.50 pesos ($3.63) per day to 37.90 pesos ($3.99) per day. Roughly 20 percent of Mexico's work force earns the minimum wage. Inflation currently at 12.03%.

Mexican 1999 Economic Bulletin

EXPORTS: Total Exports in Sept. 1999 roughly reached $12 billion. This was a decrease of 29 percent in respect to August 1999.

Maquiladoras Employment: 1,195,070 Mexicans were employed in the 3,384 maquiladoras in Mexico. Of these, 734 maquiladoras are in Tijuana. They employ 171,170 workers.

Production: The maquiladora sector of the Mexican economy grew at a 16.3 percent annual rate. During the month of August.

Inflation: Inflation for December 1999 increased from .58 % to .98% in Tijuana.
