Doña Aurora Rosas Vda. de Arnaiz will be honored as Tijuana's Philanthropist of the Year during a luncheon later this month for her remarkable support of charitable causes over many years.
Born in Chihuahua, Mexico, Doña Aurora's family moved to San Diego where she studied cosmetology. She then worked at the Casino Agua Caliente and later opened her own beauty salon in downtown Tijuana. It was during that time that she met her late husband General Ramón B. Arnaiz who founded Fraccionadora Arnaiz and Constructora Transpeninsular, the family's real estate businesses. Upon the death of General Arnaiz in 1960, Doña Aurora undertook the management of the real estate operation. Today, Raymundo Arnaiz oversees the family business.
At a special luncheon on March 29, Doña Aurora will be recognized for her numerous altruistic efforts and contributions to the community of Tijuana. Her philanthropic contributions include among others:
Helped establish the Casa Eudes Promoción a la Mujer (Eludist Home for Girls) to provide shelter and rehabilitation for young girls, as well as education programs to prepare them for self-sufficiency in the work force.
Supported the construction of Albergue Temporal Juvenil (Temporary Shelter for Homeless Children) which was fully equipped and later handed over to the Municipal Government
Participated with Project Concern International to build the Hospital Materno-Infantil (a Maternity and Children's Hospital) which provides medical service to low-income families.
The luncheon and award presentation will take place Wednesday, March 29, 2000 at 1:30pm at the Hotel Camino Real in Tijuana. This event is organized by the International Community Foundation in San Diego and the Universidad Iberoamericana Noroeste in Tijuana.
