Patricia Garcia Named New Commissioner for Child Support

Superior Court judges have appointed Patricia Garcia to a new commissioner position for handling child support cases.

Now hearing cases in Dept. 43 downtown, Ms. Garcia concentrated on family law matters as a private attorney for 10 years. She practiced the last six years with Seltzer Caplan Wilkins & McMahon, heading up their family law department. In addition, she has acted as a Superior Court judge pro tem since 1997.

The new commissioner earned her bachelor's degree in psychology at the University of California at San Diego in 1982 and her juris doctorate at the University of San Diego School of Law in 1989. She serves on the board of the UCSD Hispanic Scholarship Council and the USD Law Alumni Board.

Commissioner Garcia is a member of the county bar, the American Bar Association, and the Hispanic National Bar Association. She previously served on the board of the Lawyer Referral and Information Service and was vice-president of the La Raza Lawyers Association of San Diego.
