Cesar Chavez Essay Contest

The Cesar E. Chavez Commemoration Committee is holding a writing contest called "Reflections on Cesar E. Chavez Essay Contest" for all interested students from grades 7 - 12. Each student may enter an essay on "How has Cesar E. Chavez influenced your life and what impact has his work had or will his work have on your future?"

All entries must be 500 _ 1000 words in length. Entries must be typed, double-spaced with one inch margins all around on 8 ½ x 11 inch paper using 12 point font. Students should include their name, complete address, phone number with area code, and the name of the school they are currently attending on the upper left hand corner of the first page of their essay. Winners will be chosen by an independent judging committee and will be judged on: a) content; b) sincerity; c) creativity; d) legibility.

All essays will be dislpayed during the Cesar E. Chavez Commemoration Day Celebration on April 1, 2000. The event will be held at the Cesar E. Chavez Elementary School located at 1404 S. 40th St. San Diego, CA 92113. It will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Winning authors will be recognized and awarded their prizes at this event. Please have students keep a copy of their essay as entries will not be returned. Only (1) essay per student may be submitted. The deadline to submit the essays is on March 24, 2000.
