Aguilar Awarded $500 Scholarship

Chula Vista resident Andres Ehecatl Aguilar, a senior at Hilltop High School, has been selected to receive a $500 scholarship from the Sweetwater Authority.

Aguilar, who maintains a 4.22 GPA, is active in Water Polo, Varsity Swim Team, MEChA, Danza Mexi'cayotl, and Ballet Folklorico. He has also received honors in Biology and Chemistry, and is a Senator for the Hilltop High Senior Class.

Aguilar was selected for the award based on his scholarship, community and student activities, and his understanding of the role of special districts in California Government, which he demonstrated through an essay. He concluded, that (in keeping with John Locke's Two Treatises of Government,) "I believe that Special Districts do, indeed exist to serve their local residents because they truly represent our right to self-governance, without the interference of partisan quarrels and excessive costly political campaigns."

Director James "Jim" Doud, Sr., a Director on the Sweetwater Authority Governing Board, presented the award at Hilltop High School's Annual Award Assembly, June 11, 1999.
