Majestics Car Show at Southwest High School

The Majestics Car Club of San Diego in conjunction with the Raider Football Club of Southwest High School is hosting their "Summer `99" custom & classic car show, June 27. Come and see the beautiful detailed cars, trucks and bikes, as you enjoy all day entertainment and delicious Mexican food.

There will be prizes for Car Hop (single pump, double pump, luxury and car dance). And let's not forget the $100 prize for the beautiful seño-rita who wins the bikini contest. Jazz Season

The annual TGIF Jazz in the Parks series returns to Carlsbad for its fourteenth season of popular outdoor evening concerts. Ten concerts will be presented in four city parks between June 25 and August 27. All concerts begin at 6 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. and are free of charge. Refreshments will be provided for sale and the popular Jazz in the Parks tee-shirts will be sold by the Carlsbad Arts Associates to raise funds for the concerts. "Mister Roberts"

This World War II comedy is timeless! You will be amused at the antics of the men on the Navy cargo ship AK-601. You won't believe what a crew of sailors will think of to relieve the boredom and anxiety of war.

Mister Roberts opens Friday, June 25th and runs through August 1st., playing Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. There is a 7 p.m. dinner show every Friday night and special Sunday brunch by the bay on June 27th. Mission Music in Oceanside

The vibrant sounds of the California Missions return to their original setting at historic Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside on June 26. Acclaimed Southland vocal ensemble ZEPHYR: Voices Unbound will perform selections from the rich musical tradition of the California Missions, in a colorful program ranging from church music to folk melodies.

The performance will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday evening, June 26, in the Mission Church at Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside. Advance tickets $10; $12 at the door. For reservations and information, call (310) 474-3571.

 

"The Nature of Diamonds"

The San Diego Natural History Museum in Balboa Park will offer half-price adult admission to the "Nature of Diamonds" on Free Tuesday, the first Tuesday of every month.

Adult admission to "Diamonds" is only $6 on Free Tuesday, and examines the many facets of diamond, from its geological origins, to its place in history, art, adornment and literature, to its numerous uses in modern technology and research. Also on display are more than 300 breathtaking gems and jewelry pieces on loan from the public and private collections all over the world.

 

Gilbert & Sullivan Returns to San Diego

Rule 1. All young, unmarried men who leer, flirt or wink at women will be beheaded. Rule 2. Every judge is now his own executioner, and the office of Lord High Executioner is held by a concerned man. Rule 3. The Lord High Everything Else performs all functions not performed by the Lord High Executioner. If you haven recognized the plot by now, then you haven't ever been treated to the delightful and outrageously funny masterpiece by Gilbert & Sullivan, "The Mikado".
