Amigos Custom Car Show and Family Fiesta is Coming to Balboa Park!
Amigos Custom Car Show and Family Fiesta is coming to Balboa Park, July 10, 1999 at the Old Navy Hospital. Come and see the most detailed custom cars and bikers while enjoying Mexican music on two stages and plenty of great food. There will be something for the whole family!
Proceeds from the event benefit the Amigos Scholarship Fund and Los Niños, a nonprofit organization with education programs on both sides of the border!

Special Assistant to the Governor, Michael Yamaki, to Discuss Judicial Appointments
On Thursday, June 24, 1999, Special Assistant to the Governor, Michael Yamaki will address a special joint meeting of San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association and the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund regarding the judicial appointments process. MALDEF's Regional Counsel, Thomas A. Saenz, will moderate the discussion.
A sole practitioner in Los Angeles, Mr. Yamaki has served as President of the Los Angeles Fire Commission and on the Board of Directors of D.A.R.E. America. Mr. Yamaki advises the Governor in filling judicial and other government positions.
Founded in San Antonio, Texas in 1968, MALDEF is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to protect and promote the civil rights of the 26 million Latinos living in the United States.
This general meeting will take place at the County Bar Center, 1333 Seventh Avenue in downtown San Diego beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Four Public Art Sites Commissions Available
Four site-specific commissions, one in each of four different San Diego communities, are available through Public Art Sites (PAS).
The primary goals of PAS are to involve communities and artists in the development and creation of site-specific public artworks that inspire civic pride and celebrate community identity.

The City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department is now registering people of all ages and abilities for affordable swimming lessons through the Learn-to-Swim program. It will take place at the ARCO Olympic Training Center, Copley visitor Center, 2800 Olympic Parkway, Chula Vista on Wednesday, June 23. Reception starts at 11:30 a.m. Program: 12:00 p.m. Olympic attire is encouraged.
