Del Mar Fairgrounds — Cruise on down to the 2003 San Diego County Fair at the Del Mar Fairgrounds and discover what the “Commotion by the Ocean” is all about! From the beaches to the desert, and Los Angeles to Tijuana, the fair is the largest celebration in all of San Diego.

In conjunction with this year’s theme, “Commotion by the Ocean,” the 2003 Fair will celebrate the sights, sounds and treasures the ocean brings to the people of San Diego, combined with the fun and excitement that can only be found at the San Diego County Fair.

The drivers license debate: Identity vs. Security?

People thought you had to be a legal resident to get a Drivers License but the until 1992 all the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) required was for the applicant to pass the exams, give a phone number, their age, gender and an address in California, in order to get a drivers license, no legal residency proof had to be established.

Solemos pensar que desde siempre se tuvo que probar la residencia legal en este país para obtener la licencia de manejar, pero hasta 1992 el Departamento de Vehículos Motorizados (DMV por sus siglas en inglés) tenía los siguientes requisitos para obtener la licencia: pasar las pruebas de manejo, dar un número de teléfono, edad, sexo y una dirección en el estado de California, hasta entonces no era necesario comprobar residencia legal.

FCC Ruling a Bad Example for the Hemisphere
 The Federal Communications Commision’s announcement today that most likely will  weaken regulations affecting media ownership should alarm advocates of balanced news coverage. These proposed reforms will allow conglomerates to increase their market share, and thus profits, by buying up small media outlets and allowing them to reach an ever-larger share of local audiences, at the expense of local news and public affairs programming. It will also provide a bad example for Latin America, where the media already is frequently besieged by governments and private interests.

Los italianos distinguen dos clases de títeres o marionetas: los “pupazzi” y los “fantocci” o “burattini”. Los primeros son muñecos que se mueven por medio de hilos o resortes; en los fantocci el operador los hace mover introduciendo la mano en el interior del muñeco.
