Public Encouraged to Enter Airport Banner Competition

The Port of San Diego's Public Art Program and the Airport are sponsoring an airport banner competition and invite the public to participate. Up to 30 selected designs will be placed on public display at locations throughout San Diego International Airport, Lindbergh Field.

"The Port's Public Art Program is introducing the banner program to familiarize travelers to the San Diego region in an artistic, colorful way," said Paul H. Speer, Chairman, Board of Port Commissioners, Port of San Diego. "All Southern California artists, local schools and community groups are encouraged to apply. This is an opportunity to be included in public art and introduce fun and color for those travelers arriving and departing from the Airport."

Contestants are asked to submit scale color drawings of their banners designs by 5:00 p.m., August 14, 2000. Scale drawings are asked to comply with a "1-inch equal 1-foot ratio," and should be 16-inches by 4-inches in size. Actual banner size will be 16-feet in height by 4-feet in width. The banner design must be visually acceptable from both the front and back, and able to be seen from up to 20 feet away.
