Free Entrepreneurial Programs Offered

Southwestern College's Customized Training Office and the Small Business Development & International Trade Center are offering FREE community based, business start-up training programs for laid-off, low-income or welfare-to-work individuals interested in starting their own businesses. The programs are being funded by a federal grant from the Workforce Partnership and are scheduled to start in early 1999.

The Entrepreneurial Training Programs include a Micro-Enterprise Program for smaller, less complicated businesses having a few employees, and the Intensive Entrepreneurial Training Program for larger, more complicated enterprises. The programs are designed to take individuals from business concept to business licensing in 6 to 8 weeks.

There is an additional special track for qualified applicants who need to "brush up" on their business reading, writing and math skills prior to entering either of the entrepreneurial training programs.

Each class holds a maximum of 20 people. All applicants must attend a two-part Orientation Program. A selection committee will choose candidates from the completed applications serving a mix of candidates from all backgrounds and businesses.
