The Mayor of our fine city has issued a new tactic and silent order. She directs that each city vehicle have placed on the left rear bumper a sticker that reads: "Libraries Change Lives, Support your local library."
No written memo has been found directing this, however, Supervisors have been informed by Managers and District Managers that this is done and that they are to remain on the vehicles until March 31, 1999. In several instances at a Park and Recreation location the bumper stickers were placed in the wrong position and the employees were directed to take them off and put them on correctly.
I for one find this underhanded tactic and use of official vehicles for political purposes, offensive, and probably illegal. I intend asking my councilperson who ordered this and why.

(Comment: Shades of the Charger, Padres, Convention, Republican Convention Sea World, nothing is too illegal for the "powers" at city hall and the Chamber types when it comes time to rip- off the taxpayers. Standby for the Taxpayers Association AKA "the downtown boys" to start telling you how nice it's all gonna be.)
Voters not represented on "Rubber Stamp" Organizations for Prop L!
Prop L supporters love to point to the scores of organizations that have endorsed the sales tax increase for libraries but don't be to impressed. They all have three things in common:
1. They all want favors, subsidies, contracts and/or compliance from the politicians.
2. Almost all of these same groups supported the ballpark and the stadium deal.
3. None of these endorsing groups asked the opposition to speak except the Claire-mont Town Council and they voted 12-11 to support Prop L.
The civic groups are stacked with high-tax, big government supporters. They don't represent the diversity of opinion within the communities. Clearly voters opposing higher taxes often are not represented within these rubber stamp organizations.

(Comment: These so call civic groups don't mind spending money as long as it isn't their own. But they are the first ones to line up to the hog-trough for government handouts and perks example: multi-millionaire Spanos [chargers and Luciano (Padres].)

More from the Web Site
Recently I received the article, which appeared on your Nov. 27 issue. As former dependent who attended high school in Subic Bay (George Dewey High) like many of my fellow classmates, the time spent there holds a special meaning to us all. Your article peeked our interest and on our weekly alumni chat it was the `hot topic.' Have there been any further developments between our two governments?

Prop 187 Still Lives
I recently received the disk containing information regarding Proposition 187. The information will not only be useful but essential in comparing the views of Prop 187 throughout various areas of the country.
I sincerely thank you for your time and effort, which are immensely appreciated and will be of great benefit to my senior comprehensive paper. I hope your new year is off to a good start and all is well at La Prensa.
