Applications are now available in San Diego County High Schools for BECA Foundation Scholarships to local Latino students

Four scholarship funds are available. Selection criteria for each scholarship include the student's financial need, scholastic achievements, cultural awareness, and community contributions.

1. General Scholarships: Applicants must be 1999 North San Diego County high school graduates who are entering college fall of 1999. Scholarships range between $500-$1,000 for the academic year, and some are renewable contingent upon satisfactory academic progress. Applicants may pursue their education anywhere in the United States, and major in any academic area.

II. Dan Gutierrez Memorial Scholarship: A $750 one time scholarship with the same criteria as the General Scholarship, except that it is open to high school seniors throughout San Diego County.

III. Alice Newell Joslyn Medical Scholarship: An applicant must be entering the medical/health care profession (e.g. nurse, physician, dentist, physical therapist), and live or attend college in San Diego County at time of application. Scholarships range between $1,000 - $2,000 for the academic year and are renewable contingent upon satisfactory academic progress and continuation of a medical/health care course of study. Open to both high school seniors and students currently in college.

IV. Pepperdine University Scholarships: Applicants must be 1999 San Diego County high school graduates. Scholarships may be for up to $5,000 each for the academic year and are renewable contingent upon full-time enrollment at pepperdine and satisfactory academic progress. Applicants musts be admitted to Pepperdine University, and the scholarship is for use at Pepperdine University in any academic major.
