On Saturday, January 30th, the University of San Diego Athletic Department will play host to more than 400 greater San Diego Inner City youth. The USD Women's Basketball team has joined the Greater San Diego Inner City Games program and Domino's Pizza in an effort to serve as role models to San Diego's youth and teach them more about Intercollegiate Athletics.
The Event will be open to all San Diego youth between the ages of 7-14 and in 1st grade through 8th grade. Registration will begin at 2:30 at the USD Sports Center with the fun and games kicking off at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 30th. The day's activities will involve a sports carnival with instruction being provided in Volleyball, Tennis, Basketball, Dance and Fitness and Nutrition. The children will also be treated to dinner sponsored by Domino's Pizza and free admission to the women's basketball game vs. Pepperdine that evening at 7 p.m.
Athletes from the Women's Basketball team, the Wom-en's Tennis team, the Volleyball team, the Swimming and Diving team and others will provide sports instruction, sign autographs and share their personal experiences with each Fun Day participant. The one on one interaction is one of the most positive and unique aspects of this program. "We had such a fun time with this last year, the entire team is really looking forward to it again. It's a great way to help these kids. Plus, they help us when they come to our game. Last year, with almost 500 kids cheering us on, it was a big boost, we think it pushed us to win for them and ourselves." Said Senior USD player Maggie Dixon.
