Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles Comes to Southwestern College January 21

America's first all-female mariachi group, the Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles, will make its premiere appearance at Southwestern College Mayan Hall, Thursday January 21 at 8 p.m. Southwestern College invites the community to attend an evening of traditional Mexican music.

Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles is a group of young charro-suited women, ages 14 to 34, who play acoustic instruments and sing Mexican folkloric music. Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles completed their first album in March of 1998 called, "Solo Tuya," produced by Jose Hernandez, who is also the creator of Mariachi Sol de Mexico. They have shared the stage with many fine Latin performers including Vikki Carr, Guadalupe Pineda, Miguel Aceves Mejia, Lucha Villa and Lola Beltran, who became their Godmother during their debut performance.

The performance in part with funds from the National Endowment for the Arts and the California Arts Council.

Ticket prices are $20 for general admissions and $10 for students. Tickets are a available at the SWC Box Office open between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. until noon. Proceeds benefit the SWC Mariachi Program.
