On Saturday, February 27th, at 10am the 8th Annual Heritage Day Parade kicks off a brand new route beginning at Euclid and Solola Ave., and ending at Nararja Street. Immediately following the parade there will be an afternoon of entertainment at the Langley Center's Lot, featuring special guest appearances by the San Diego Chargers, 10 news anchor Lisa Lake, and this year's Honorary Grand Marshal; Maya Walden, a six year old girl desesperately in need of a bone marrow transplant.
This year's theme "Y2Y" is a look forward to the year two-thousand. A coming together of all the resources of San Diego that are at the peoples disposal including: help agencies, the Faith community, businesses and some of Southern California's best high school bands and drill teams. Last year's best band, Compton High School vows to "take first place again!" The parade is accepting applications for parade entrants ($35) and booth reservations ($50) through February 20, 1999. Application locations are as follows: It is Written Bookstore, 6934 Federal Blvd., Malcolm X Library, 5148 Market Street, and Nu-Way Christian Ministries, 3081 54th St. (1-4pm).
