Scholarship Deadline Approaching for Area High School Seniors

The deadline for area high school seniors to apply for a Ford Salute to Education scholarship is Friday, February 5, 1999. San Diego County Ford dealers and Ford Motor Company will award scholarships totaling $250,000 to 250 area graduating seniors. As an added surprise, one of these lucky recipients will also receive a brand new Ford vehicle at the Salute to Education Scholarship Announcement Ceremony to take place in April.

The student's personal achievement and service to his/her community and school play a primary factor in receiving a Ford Salute to Education scholarship. Students may apply under one of the following categories: arts, athletics, foreign language, general, language arts, mathematics, performing arts, science, social science and vocational/technical.

Scholarship applications are available through the offices of senior high school counselors and at the San Diego County Ford dealerships. All seniors attending an accredited public or private high school in San Diego County are eligible to apply for the scholarship regardless of their grade point average.

This is the second year that the San Diego County Ford dealers and Ford Motor Company combine resources to provide scholarships for area high school seniors through the Salute to Education program. "On behalf of the San Diego County Ford dealers, we are proud to offer scholarships to students who serve as positive role models to their peers," said Joe Drew, dealer principle of Drew Ford in La Mesa. "Salute to Education scholarship recipients reflect students who have generously contributed to their community and have overcome significant barriers to complete a high school education. These students deserve recognition for their accomplishments," Drew added.
