Universities and Colleges Will Hold Talks for Students and Parents

Local universities and colleges will join together in the coming several months to host "College: Making it Happen," a free college preparation program designed for students in grades six through eight and their parents.

Presentations are scheduled in the evenings at middle schools in San Diego and Imperial Counties beginning in late January and continuing through March. Many of the talks will be bilingual (English/Spanish).

Participating colleges include UCSD, San Diego State University, CSU San Marcos, Point Loma Nazarene, University of San Diego, USIU and all of San Diego County's community colleges.

The college awareness presentations provide practical and easy-to-understand information on how to prepare in advance, academically and financially, for college. Each will open with a video "College: Making It Happen," a production that represents the first time that all of California's education systems -- from kindergarten to college -- have collaborated to develop a video. Spanish and English versions of the video will be shown. Following the video, representatives from local colleges will answer questions and provide written materials with practical tips on how to prepare for college.

Presentations will take place in the North County, Imperial Valley, La Mesa/Spring Valley, San Diego County, and Sweetwater. For complete schedule, time and dates call Patricia Silvas at (619) 594-2921.
