SCRPC Schedules Annual Two-Day Minority Business Opportunity Day Trade Fair Activities

Los Angeles — The Southern California Regional Purchasing Councils, Inc. (SCRPC) will conduct the 31st Annual "Minority Business Opportunity Day" Trade Fair (MBOD 2000) on Wednesday and Thursday, February 16 and 17, 2000, at the Los Angeles Convention and Exhibition Center. One of the nation's largest trade fairs of its kind, MBOD is a two-day event which brings together representatives of major corporations (and other major purchasers) with minority business owners in a one-stop marketing environment, for the purpose of discussing possible procurement opportunities.

Founded in 1975, SCRPC is a non-profit public benefit corporation, involved in economic development. The Councils' mission is to expand business opportunities for minority suppliers and encourage mutually beneficial economic links between minority enterprises, and its 260 members (major corporations). One of 39 regional councils in the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) network, SCRPC serves a 13-county area in Southern California. SCRPC also has three divisions: the newly organized Central Valley and Greater San Diego Business Development Councils and the Orange County Purchasing Council.

With the theme, "21st Century Outlook: New Strategies, New Successes," MBOD 2000 will feature seminars and workshops designed to generate discussions that give minority business owners `hard facts' and insights on how to do business with various majority purchasers, trends in purchasing, e-commerce, etc.

According to SCRPC's Executive Director, Peter Wiersma, "We have an MBOD 2000 Trade Fair Steering Committee of close to 70 corporate members, suppliers and government agency representatives, all working diligently to make this event a really productive experience for every participant.

"We're also very pleased to announce that Dr. Therman Evans, nationally recognized medical doctor, motivational speaker and author, has accepted our invitation to be keynote speaker for the Annual Sponsor Breakfast on Thursday morning, February 17."

"The basic format of MBOD's Trade Fair is the M/WBE program administrators and buyers/end-users in the exhibit booth," Wiersma added. "This allows minority business owners to cluster numerous sales calls in one day that might otherwise take six months to develop.

Trade Fair information can be obtained by calling (213) 380-7114 or (714) 750-1083.
