Exploring Art and Color
Color Play: Exploring the Art and Science of Color, a new 2000 square-foot national traveling exhibition for children of all ages, will open at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park on Friday, January 28, 2000.
The Color Playhouse, a giant 12'x24' house with whimsical detailing, is the exhibition's centerpiece. No ordinary playhouse, this one features vibrantly colored roomseach with its own fun and games.
The Yellow Light Room features two different lights that dramatically transform paintings and other objects in the room when a switch is flipped. Older kids will find things are not as they appear when they conduct the Stroop Test. Younger children can don costumes, which also change color with the light.
A mysterious Black Light Room surprises and delights by bringing hidden objects to light and making things glow as an ultraviolet spotlight sweeps the room. Other exhibits in Color Play include TV Colors, Neon Swirl, Color Creations, Picture Printing, Pigment Palette, Color Spinners, Color Storm, Big Kaleidoscope and Afterimages. Admission to the exhibit galleries is $6.50 for adults (13 and older), $5.50 for seniors, and $5 for juniors. For further information, call 238-1233.

Taco Shop Poets
The Taco Shop poets, a Latino poetry/performance group, will move out of the taco shops and coffeehouses to give a free "spoken-work performance" at Grossmont College on February 4 at 7 PM in room 220. A performance by the group, filmed in downtown San Diego, is featured in the documentary, "Americanos," produced by Edward James Olmos. Their poetry explores the area we live in the border an area that is porous. Porous in our language, our culture. They talk about the changing faces of our neighborhoods. Their words go back and forth, making connections.
