Racial Hate Crime Film

The Miramar College Evening With the Experts Series kicks off the spring offerings on Friday, Feb. 26 at 6:30 with a startling film presentation, "Letters to Thien".

The documentary, presented in person by its producers, shares the shocking story of the life and death of a 24-year old Asian male, Minh Ly, who, two years ago on the grounds of Tustin High School, was tragically victimized by racial hate crime. The 55-minute video tells the story of Thien's life through the memories of friends and relatives. Thien was a recent graduate from UCLA and Georgetown University and was considering attending law school when his life was abruptly taken from him.

"Letters to Thien" examines in intimate detail how Thien's life and death continues to affect the members of his community and the damage crimes of hate inflict in our society. These combined stories are presented with the hopeful intention of creating an environment where the intolerance that fuels this nation's hate campaign becomes unacceptable. This presentation is held in lecture hall I-101 and is free. Miramar College is located at 10440 Black Mountain Road, just west of I-15. For more information, contact the Miramar College Public Information Office at 536-7876.

"Come Blow Your Horn"

In an outrageous, cornucopia of fun and laughter set against a retro 60's backdrop, The North Coast Repertory Theatre proudly presents Neil Simon's classic comedy "Come Blow Your Horn", opening Feb. 27, and runs through April 11, 1999.

Neil Simon's first Broadway hit is a memento from a different era—a blast from the past when a bachelor was a bachelor and had a certain lifestyle to maintain. He had to keep up with a steady streak of martinis and romantic mood albums to play on the hi-fi. In his mind, women would enter his domain and fall prey to its romance. Call 481-1055 for reservations or additional information.

"Shamanistic Healing"

Many medical experts contend that the mind is the most powerful healing tool we have. Dr. Richard Seigle, MD, a UCLA trained physician who earned his Medical Degree from the University of Southern California, integrates mind, body and spirit in his medical practice by using a diversity of native healing principles.

"Using Shamanistic Healing in My Medical Practice," a lecture given by Dr. Seigle at the San Diego Museum of Man on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. will explore Western medicine's increasing interest in native healing techniques, which look at the whole person in the context of their surroundings. Dr. Seigle will discuss how he confronts the limitations of modern medicine. The lecture will be held at the museum's Gill Auditorium and costs $5 for members and $7 for non-members.
