The Alzheimer's Association San Diego Chapter announced that the "Anna Tucker Library" (located in the main office at 8514 Commerce Avenue, San Diego) now holds Spanish translations of over 70 Alzheimer's disease related topics. The availability of these materials was made possible in part through a grant from SDG&E.
SDG&E has partnered with the local Alzheimer's Association Chapter to expand the Association's Latino Outreach Program. Part of the grant was designated to develop and translate educational material in Spanish and to produce a volunteer recruitment video titled "Programa de Descanso Voluntario" (directed and produced by Ortiz Film Works) which recently won the "Award of Distinction" in "The Communicator Awards 1998" Television/Commercials/Programs/News and Video/Film competition.
Materials now available in Spanish include books, brochures, videos, and Fact Sheets on topics such as "Activities," "Combativeness," "Communication," "Diagnosis," "Hallucinations", "Incontinence," "Medication Use," "Nutrition," "Wandering," and more.
"Through SDG&E's generosity and support, the Alzheimer's Association's Spanish material has increased tremendously," states Roberto Velasquez, Manager of Latino Outreach and the Volunteer Respite Network (AKA; "Programa de Descanso Voluntario). "We are not only able to provide telephone support to families in Spanish through our HELP-LINE (AKA; "Línea de Ayuda'), but also have the ability to send out FREE Spanish material to families who are dealing with this devastating disease."
The Alzheimer's Association San Diego Chapter in partnership with SDG&E is making great strides in providing Help and Hope to families in the Latino community.
