Washington, D.C. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) is accepting applications for its 1999-2000 nine month fellowship program in Washington, D.C. The fellowship program offers Hispanic recent college graduates, or currently-enrolled graduate students, an opportunity to get an inside look into the public policy-making arena, and an opportunity for those starting out in their careers. CHCI provides fellows with round-trip transportation to Washington, D.C., a monthly stipend, and health insurance.
Every year, the fellowship program offers up to 16 promising Latinos from across the country the opportunity to gain hands-on experience at the federal level on the public policy area of their choice. The range of placements includes congressional offices, federal agencies, Washington-based media, national advocacy organizations, and government-related institutions. Participants have the options of changing placements once at the mid-point during the program. The intensive work experience is enhanced through weekly leadership development sessions, which allow fellows to meet national leaders, engage in substantive policy discussions, make presentations, and collaborate in community service projects.
CHCI is a non-profit and non-partisan educational organization established in 1978. Its mission is the development of the next generation of Latino leaders. This is accomplished through programs designed to familiarize Hispanic students with policy-related careers, educational scholarship resources, and information dissemination through conferences and publications. Support for these programs is donated solely by corporations and philanthropic foundations.
