Wide Range of Scholarships Offered to SWC Students

By Elizabeth Posadas

Southwestern College students have the opportunity to be rewarded for academic excellence and for participating in campus activities. An abundance of scholarships are offered through SWC and other professional organizations for students interested in financing their education.

Students applying for Southwestern College scholarships are required to submit the scholarship application, two letters of recommendations, Student Organization card, an educational/career goal statement, qualification statement, and must be involved with extra-curricular activities on campus. Different criteria are required for each scholarship. An essay writing workshop will be available to students applying for scholarships.

A scholarship committee composed of classified staff, faculty, and student representatives then review the applications. The selection process lasts five-weeks and begins in March. Award recipients are then notified in April and are honored at an award ceremony May 12.

Award range from $50 to $2,500 and are targeted to a wide range of academic majors, interests, special talents or activities and ethnicities. There are thirty-nine different scholarship available in 1999.
