As the campaign heats up on Prop L the misinformation being fed to the public, by the operatives behind the scenes, increases in proportion to their fears that as the public learns more and more about PROP L the less inclined they are to vote for it.
On February 9th, in calling for passage of the higher sales tax in Prop L, the San Diego Union-Tribune editorially has abandoned all claims to objective and is in reality a shill for the downtown establishment. The Union-Tribune bemoaned the terrible conditions at the Pt Loma Branch Library saying: "The Point Loma branch is even smaller then the Spring Valley Branch", then made their pitch to the County voters to pass Prop L and give these poor folks a nice new public library!
FACT: The Pt. Loma library is already scheduled for replacement, without Prop L money.
FACT: The land is already purchased.
FACT: A private donor has already funded the new EIGHTEEN THOUSAND SQUARE FOOT library!
Pregunta: Does Pt. Loma really need a new library?
Don't be fooled my dear voters, the U/T is just repeating the campaign literature without doing any investigation what so ever. It would be nice if the U/T sent one or two of their editors and reporters out into the field and research the Prop L statements for "facticity." Of course why let the truth stand in the way of the COPLEY PRESS.
The proponents say they need Prop L to improve community and Branch Libraries.
And to build and repair local libraries. The big lie being fed to the Chicano, Mexican American Latino community of Logan Heights and San Ysidro is that they will get new libraries. Once again, all they want is your vote and as soon as they get it they will ignore your needs.
Fact: The city has stated in the Proposition that only 1/3rd of the money that the city gets will be used to carry out the repairs, new Libraries, books and materials needed by the branch libraries. The proponents also state in the ballot that they will also provide computers and new Technology, extend service hours, expand youth programs and enhance Literacy and Senior services AT 25 OF THE LIBRARIES!
Fact: The city has already stated that 2/3rd's (all the rest of the money they receive) will be put in a TRUST FUND.
Fact: The city had already stated in the ballot that the 1/3rd set aside for repairs etc. none will be used to build a new library in LOGAN HEIGHTS. La Gente of Logan will have to do with the closet of Library they now have. San Ysidro will not get a library! No capitol improvements, NADA!
DOUBLE WHAMMY FACT: THE SAN DIEGO CITY COUNCIL WILL CONTROL THE 2/3RDS OF THE MONEY GENERATED IF PROP L PASSES. THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL HAVE ALREADY VOTED TO SET ASIDE THOSE FUNDS TO BUILD THE "SUSAN GOLDING MONUMENT" Library in downtown San Diego .
It's a shame that all our elected and trusted leaders would pull this kind of a scam on our GENTE.
REMEMBER GENTE WE ONLY NEED 1/3RD OF THOSE VOTING TO STOP THIS OUTRAGEOUS RIP-OFF JOIN LA PRENSA ON MARCH 2 AND VOTE NO! You're not getting anything so you have nothing to lose except RESPETO. You must make the rest of San Diego respect your vote and not allow them to take you for granted any longer!
