San Diego Job Corps Presents A `Dress For Success Career Faire'

The San Diego Job Corps Center is presenting a `Dress For Success Career Faire', Thursday, February 18 beginning at 1 p.m. The faire will emphasize the importance of a professional imgage, introduce community employers to a potential workforce, and provide trainees with an array of careers to consider.

Centre City Development to Host Community Salute to Dr. King

In its ongoing efforts to showcase the Martin Luther King, Jr. Promenade, San Diego's premiere tribut to Dr. King. Centre City Development Corporation (CCDC) is hosting a "Community Salute to Dr. King". The event will be held from 2 pm - 4 pm on Saturday, February 20, 1999 on Harbor Drive at First.

The activities will begin with guided tours of the Promenade followed by a recital of one of Dr. King's speeches and a community prayer. The linear park features along its path, excerpts from some of Dr. King's most famous speeches. Also included is award-winning artwork that was commissioned specifically for the Promenade

 

Stevens Announces Free Trees

Councilman George Stevens announced that trees are available to Fourth District residents. There is no charge for the trees, however, they must be planted in the public right of way. Residents requesting the trees must agree to help plant and maintain the trees.

Date Extended to Apply to Serve on General Obligation Bond Oversight Committee

The Chula Vista elementary School District Board of Education has extended the deadline for interested community members to apply to serve on a General Obligation Bond Citizens Oversight Committee. Committee members serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Education to review General Obligation Bond sales and expenditures as the relate to the modernization and new school construction program.

Looking for Classmates

The Sweetwater High School Reunion Committee is currently trying to locate all 1974 Alumni members for their 25th Year Silver Anniversary High School Reunion. The planning stages are underway and lots of fun and memories will be made. To celebrate the memorable occasion there will be an all Alumni Classes Picnic, a Social Evening, a Dinner/Dance and much more. Chinese New Year

The San Diego Chinese Center and the Asian Business Association will host a weekend of festivities to celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Rabbit. The 17th annual Chinese New Year Food & Cultural Faire will feature lion dancing, Chinese acrobats, martial arts, music, cookings demos, and much more.

The events kick off at the China Camp/Fat City, 2137 Pacific Highway, downtown San Diego, Friday, Feb. 12 - 5pm - 9pm. $20 for Asian Business Association/Zoological Society members and $25 for non-members. The events then shifts to San Diego's Gaslamp District Saturday and Sunday, Feb 13-14, at Third and J Streets. $3 for adults and $2 children 3-12.

 

Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center Offers "Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center's Senior Resource Center offers volunteer income tax assistance. This free service is provided by qualified volunteers of VITA, "Volunteer Income Tax Assistance", program, for low income families and the elderly.

VITA services will be located at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, 751 Medical Center Court, Chula Vista. For more information and or an appointment, call the Senior Resource Center, 482-5802.

 

Hot Meals for Senior Citizens

The Neighborhood House Association's - Senior Nutrition Program is looking for seniors who are 60 years old or older to participate in its well-balanced meals program. Hot nutritious breakfast and lunches are being served Monday through Friday at the Neighborhood House Senior Center located at 795 South Boundary Street, San Diego phone (619) 263-2108. Breakfast is served at the center from 8:30 to 9:30 am a 50-cente donation is suggested for breakfast. Lunch is served from 12 noon to 1 pm a $1 donation is suggested for lunch.

 

Auto Product Recycling Collection Event

City of San Diego residents can drop off their car's used and leftover products at the next free Auto Product Recycling Collection Event, February 20. Collection will take place from 9 am - 1 pm at Qualcomm Stadium, 9449 Friars Road. This event is open to all San Diego residents including those living in Serra Mesa, Tierrasanta, Kensington and San Carlos. Proof of residency within San Diego city boundaries is required.

Hazardous waste specialist will be on had to collect motor oil, antifreeze, oil filters and auto batteries. No other wastes will be accepted. This event is for home mechanics only.
