UC Santa Barbara Chicana/Chicano Studies Foundation to hold a fundraiser

On March 2, 2000 at the Orpheum Theater in downtown Los Angeles UC Santa Barbara Chicana/Chicano Studies Foundation will hold a fundraiser with the showing of "One Man's Hero," starring Tom Berenger and Daniela Romo, a film about the San Patricios, the Irish who fought on the Mexican side in the war of 1847. The screening will be at 7:30 p.m.. The director and producer, Lance and Conrad Hool, will be present before the screening. The actors have been invited. There will be Irish and Mexican music.

The Foundation was started during the struggle against Proposition 209, the anti-affirmative action initiative. Our mission was to assist Latinos and others who have been the victims of employment discrimination. The Chicana/o Studies Foundation wants to expand its work and become more proactive in the fight for affirmative action. We also want to tie this to other issues and enter into a dialogue on many current issues that affect the Latino community.

The ticket prices will be $15.00, or, if an organization or individual takes 25 or more tickets, $10.00 a ticket. We will be contacting the following bookstores to help distribute tickets, Expreso Mi Cultura in Hollywood, Cultura Latina Bookstore in Long Beach, and Premier Aztlan in Monte-bello. If you know of anyone who would like to help, please contact: Dr. Rodolfo F. Acuna, racuna@csun.edu, 634 South Spring St., Suite 919 Los Angeles, CA 90014. 213-623-7455,Fax 213-623-7453.
