KPBS to Hold Casting Call For New Radio Show Talent

New voices. Irreverent ideas. Fresh perspectives. These are some of the criteria KPBS is looking for in its co-hosts and recurrent contributors for "The Lounge," a new radio show launching in February 1999. KPBS is holding an open casting call on Tuesday, January 12 from noon to 8 p.m. at the KPBS Copley Telecommunications Center and welcomes talented people ages 25 to 35 to audition for on-air positions.

The producers for "The Lounge" are looking for young people with a point of view. Radio experience is not required but live performance skills are a must. Applicants have up to 90 seconds to present their most compelling essays, poetry or audio performance live in front of a KPBS panel of judges.

Participants are encouraged to bring support materials such as resumes, audio and videotapes, writing and photos that will help the selection panel make a decision. Anyone interested in trying out should call (619) 594-0373.

"The Lounge" will air Sunday through Thursday on KPBS Radio beginning in February 1999. The program will focus on San Diego's popular culture and the county's more eclectic and underground activities and music. Elements of the program include interviews, criticism and reviews, call-in segments and live performances.
