Local performing, visual and literary artists can find out how to apply for paying residencies at a workshop presented by the Carlsbad Arts Office on Friday, January 8th. People representing organizations (schools, community centers, youth clubs) interested in hosting an artist-in-residence are also invited to attend. The workshop provides information on Artist-in-Residence grants awarded annually by the California Arts Council (CAC); deadline for grant applications is February 5, 1999.
Attendees will learn the grant application process and the timeline from application to start-of-project. Selecting partners, developing competitive projects, and what to do once you've been funded will also be covered in the workshop. The CAC Artist-in-Residence program funds more than 150 artists around the state to work for 80 hours per month with school children and senior citizens, in hospitals and institutions, for community agencies and cultural centers. Artists are paid $1,600 for each month of the residency. Artists must have at least three years' experience in their fields and may not be full time students in a degree program.
The workshop takes place at 3:30 p.m. in the Carlsbad Arts Office at Carlsbad City Hall, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive. There is no charge to attend; however, a reservation is requested. Call (760) 434-2920 for information or to reserve a seat.
